June's Tap into TechSpring - America’s Opioid Crisis: Innovations for Fighting a Taboo Disease

During the US’s deadliest drug overdose crisis, opioid addiction is often treated more like the result of a patient’s poor decision-making, rather than what it is—a disease fueled by overprescription, and compounded by social, economic, physical and psychological factors.

Join us to learn about several innovative programs being implemented here in Massachusetts, which ranks among the top ten states with the highest rates of opioid deaths in the US.

Guest Speakers:

Our panel of experts will discuss myths, realities, challenges and opportunities in treating opioid use disorders and how to prevent patients from falling through the cracks during a national crisis.

Bill Soares, MD, Emergency Medicine Physician at Baystate Health and Assistant Professor at UMass Medical School

Peter Friedmann, MD, Chief Research Officer at Baystate Health and Associate Dean for Research at UMass Medical School

Liz Whynott, Director of HIV Health and Prevention at Tapestry Health in Florence, MA
